Nokia 6500 Slide

I've always been attracted to slide phone because they look cool. So I've had a few SE, Nokia, and even Samsung (the last one I highly detest to this day). All the sliders have a common problem: the placement of the keys when requiring the keyboard can be confusing as well as the role of the slide itself to terminate and answer a call or locking the phone. But let's get to the point here. Is the Nokia 6500 Slide a good , solid phone?

The 6500s sports a Series 40 operating system. The software is slower than a Series 60 Symbian. Unbelievable! Really did the drug the phone or were the engineers on drugs? I send an email to Nokia asking this and they did not reply. The clearly have something to hide.

The build quality is excellent I have to say, and the camera like all other Nokia phones is slow as a sedated snail. However, this all is in sync with how slow the operating system is. But let's get to reception and battery life. NO NO NO! What is the matter with this phone? The battery life for such a simple phone is ridiculous; two days max! And the reception is like the LG Viewty - and to say that it is one of the most crude insults one can give to a phone.

The slide mechanism is solid. The phone open and closes with confidence. However, as I said before there are common problems to slides. Why doesn't the phone lock when I slide it closed after a call, or after I check an SMS? WHY NOKIA? Why do I have to go through the extra step of exiting the phone book or the messaging application, slide my phone closed and then tapping lock the phone? Probably Nokia would answer that life is not simple and the mobile phone should not be neither especially if you wanted a cool slide one.

In all other aspects the phone performs well, but again let's not complicate our lives!

BOTTOM LINE

5/10

BUY ONLY IF YOU HAVE A NERVOUS TIC THAT FORCES YOU TO SLIDE OPEN AND CLOSE AN OBJECT OF GOOD BUILD QUALITY
